The value of programmable treasury depends on reliable access and clear authority, not just a more attractive interface for idle cash.
The announced round
Spiko announced a $90 million Series B led by New Enterprise Associates on October 6. The company says the capital will support new products, new markets and hiring. In its announcement, Spiko describes fund shares recorded on blockchain infrastructure and cash-management rules accessible through integrations and its API.
The financing is an investment in Spiko as a company. It is not customer money deposited into its funds, and it does not establish that any particular investment is suitable for a reader. Product risks and withdrawal conditions still need to be assessed individually.
Foundra analysis: treasury is a schedule
A business does not simply have a cash balance; it has obligations arriving on different dates. Payroll, supplier bills and unexpected expenses can make immediately usable liquidity more important than a headline yield. Automation is useful if it helps align those obligations with cash availability while preserving a clear view of what is committed.
That changes the product question from where money sits to how it moves. Who can change a rule? Which actions require approval? What happens if an integration stops working or an anticipated receipt arrives late? A programmable system should make those answers easier to inspect. Otherwise, automation can obscure an existing operating risk rather than reduce it.
What to watch next
Liquidity
Map obligations against withdrawal conditions.
Authority
Define who can change rules and approve movements.
Evidence
Evaluate reconciliation and exception handling.
What would demonstrate durable value
For finance teams, the relevant evidence includes reconciliation effort, visibility of holdings, reliable withdrawals and the handling of exceptions. A system that removes repetitive work can still require careful oversight of authorisations and product exposure. Blockchain records do not by themselves resolve every legal, operational or investment risk.
The funding gives Spiko resources to pursue a wider business, but the customer case will be strongest when the service is demonstrably easy to supervise. Watch how the company explains its different products, how businesses connect them to their own cash schedules, and whether integrations reduce manual intervention without weakening controls. For fintech founders, this is a useful reminder that attractive infrastructure often wins through ordinary operating details: understandable statements, dependable processes and a clear route to help when something unusual happens. Those are less dramatic than a fundraising figure, but closer to the reasons a customer stays.
