A listing is a distribution surface; a successful customer journey is the business.
Find the workflow connection
The strongest reason to enter an app marketplace is that the customer already performs relevant work in the host platform. Identify the precise moment when the added product becomes useful. A hypothetical merchandising app might help a merchant prepare a catalogue before a campaign. That connection gives the listing a concrete promise and makes it easier to explain why installation is worth the effort.
Make the listing match the product
Screenshots, descriptions and pricing should reflect what a newly installed customer can actually use. Explain prerequisites and any work needed to connect data. A persuasive listing that attracts unsuitable users can increase support costs and weaken retention. Product teams should review the search terms and customer questions that lead to installation rather than assuming every visitor shares the same intent.
Beyond the install button
Discover
Match a specific customer task.
Install
Explain permissions and prerequisites.
Activate
Complete the first useful workflow.
Retain
Keep the integration reliable and valuable.
Own activation after installation
Installation is not the same as a successful setup. Track whether permissions are granted, data arrives and the first useful task completes. Provide a recovery path for each common failure. If the host platform changes an interface or policy, the app needs a way to identify affected users and communicate clearly. Distribution through another platform does not remove the developer’s responsibility for the customer experience.

Measure the channel as a business
Compare acquisition, activation, retention and support effort for marketplace customers. Include platform-related costs under a consistent policy. Watch whether the product creates a reason for customers to return without repeated promotion. A marketplace can be an effective starting point, but founders should understand their dependence on its rules and ranking surfaces. The durable asset is the value customers repeatedly obtain from the integration.
