THE FOUNDRA TAKE

Make the article understandable first; use structured data to describe the page that genuinely exists.

Start with a distinct useful article

A headline should describe the actual development and a standfirst should explain why it matters. Give the page a stable address, an identifiable publisher and an accurate publication date. Avoid changing dates merely to make old reporting appear fresh. A reader arriving from search should quickly understand what happened, what is analysis and which sources support the material claims.

Make the technical description match

Google documents Article and NewsArticle structured data as ways to describe article content. The headline, image and dates in that markup should match the visible page. A practical publisher review should compare them directly. Structured data is not a guarantee of a search feature or ranking; it is a description that needs to remain accurate as the article changes.

Keep discovery paths straightforward

Link important stories from relevant sections, topic pages and related articles. Use a sitemap that lists the intended public URLs and a consistent canonical address for each story. If an article is available only behind an unintended login or carries a development noindex setting, metadata alone will not make it discoverable. Verify the published page from outside the editorial environment.

Measure what follows the visit

Search traffic is useful when the story satisfies the reader and leads to continued trust. Review which topics attract readers who return or explore related work, while respecting the site’s stated data practices. Fix broken links, missing images and confusing mobile layouts. A publication’s durable search strategy is a maintained body of useful reporting, supported by reliable page structure rather than repeated attempts to manufacture freshness.
